thing that may be of interest please feel free to submit to her and you may be published! Our members, Jim Vanek and Evan Dagle, won awards at Arlington. Jim for his (Sport Copter)Vortex as the "Reserve Grand Champion" and Evan for his (Sport Copter) Lightning, as the "Champion". Also, Mr. Michael Connor won "Best Workmanship" for his (Sport Copter) Vortex. Brad Crenshaw announced that the national PRA will not be able to attend the Arlington airshow next year and if anyone in our club would take on the responsibility of running the booth, they would help with costs. They will offer 5 free passes and a discount on a camp site. Brad said that he and President Dick Moore had agreed to take on this duty and are asking if any other club members would like to take part. Please notify Dick or let us know at the next meeting. If there is a little more expense to include some of you who would like to help out, our club will then take a vote to "foot the bill", as we feel it is good exposure for us to. Dick Moore made mention (as was brought up at the meeting in his absence) that he wants to pursue doing another club airshow in 2003. He is checking on the availability of holding an event at the McMinnville. He had already talked to Kathy Fields about this venture and she was excited about this. Cliff (Herbison) who attended the meeting said that he knew one of the airport owners and would talk to him about getting this to go through

The gathering started at noon, as several gyro's flew in. Don Stuart and Jeff Austin, club member from Salem, flew their Vortex Sport Copters. Dan Darling, club member, flew his KB-3 from Hood River. All in all we had 43 people in attendance, which included several guests. Cliff and Elisa Herbison and their family from the Portland area, joined us along with Orval and Hester Longanecker, whom are new Chapter 73 members. Kelly Vanek provided a bar-b-que of hot dogs and sausage, while Ray Bruce made his fabulous macaroni salad and "Addie" (Bruce) made over 40(!) turkey sandwiches with everything. We had more than enough, and sent members home with bags of leftovers. Thank you for all of the food donations (miscellaneous chips, dips, goodies, etc). All of this helps the club and adds to our fun ( I mean "fund") to help us pull off future events. The meeting was called at 1:10pm by Vice President, Bob Johnson. Kevin Richey was called on to discuss the Arlington EAA Airshow, which was held in July. He told members that he had met with Kathy Fields, our National PRA editor for the "Rotorcraft" magazine. She stressed to Kevin that she is always needing material especially from chapter members. Any

I arrived on the scene about 8:10 AM. Bob and Dan were already there and had the booth up and ready for the big opening day. This was on Friday morning which was "kids day" at the fair. The kids were bussed in from local schools around the Albany area. Dan came up with a small simulator to act as the stick in a gyroplane. This item went over great with the children. Many of the girls were good at getting the ball on the dot. Perhaps I should explain a bit how the thing works. It is a square box arranged on pivots so the stick will move the box. This in turn causes the ball inside to move with input on the stick. There is a black dot in the middle of the box and that is the point where one should hold the ball with input from the stick. It all mimics the movements re

many. It will be interesting to see if we pick up new members from this venture. Also cant pass the opportunity give Bob Johnson and Dan Jordan their credits. They did a great job explaining our club and the important points of flying the gyroplane. Their knowledge and ability to deliver this information is beyond reproach. A good job guys! I could write more on this but will cut it off for this time. I hope I have presented a little insight on the air fair and until next year will be back for the next one.

\integrate with other equipment to give full panel to whatever one is flying. Another very interesting item on display was one of the large fire fighting helicopters. This one was out of Corvallis. This machine is huge. One can't imagine their bulk until you've walked around it and taken a good look. For those who have not seen one up close don't miss it if you have the chance. I should have gotten some of the technical information about it but I didn't
Before I ramble on anymore, a little more about the PRA booth. We had Jim's Vortex on display on floats and it created much interest. Also had applications for membership to Chapter 73 which we passed out

Importance of introducing the general public to gyros and the world of aviation that gyros can bring to them. I will try to talk to you at the next meeting about doing more of these club promotional. On September 27 the President and Secretary meet with consultants from Timberland Tax and Bookkeeping firm. The meeting went very well and may have solved out tax exempt status for the club. This will solve lots of problems with the bookkeeping and may even save us allot of the expense for printing the news letter.

Meeting came to order at 1pm. There were 19 members, and two guest at the meeting. Don Griffin and Ray and Addie Bruces son. Old Business: Brad and Gary reported on trip to Arlington. Our president Dick Moore is coordinating the PRA booth for July 10-15th, 2002. We will need 6 volunteers to come help work the booth. Lets get involved! It shows good spirit about our club if we have many there to help out! Dan Jordan motioned to support everyone that wants to help. Dan Jordan talked about the tax exemption problem and the progress on it. Bob Johnson is writing a letter to the PRA Magazine and needs a count of all the gyrocopters in our club. New Business: Astoria airfair was announced to be September 22. There was a cool gyro and or helicopter trainer we saw in Japan. A motion was to find out more about it and what it would cost for the club to purchase one. Gary Cominsky is having problems with his RAF will be at the next meeting to ask for help. Any help will be appreciated. Kevin Richey had a September issue of the North Oregon Aviation and it had an article on Sportscopter, and there was a photo of Jim Vanek in it. Kathy Fields says the RAF is not going out of business, they plan on having others open distributorships.
